OMG…The World Ends Tonight

How do I know this?  Let me explain.

For the past several years I have been frequenting the “Popeye’s” chicken place just up the road from our house.   I really do enjoy their “spicy” style chicken, but there are two rules that always apply when you go to this particular place.

Rule No. 1 is that they never have the particular food that you might have been wanting.  If you want “Spicy” chicken, they only have the regular stuff and it will be a 20 min wait for them to cook up another batch.  If you want one of their fried cinnamon apple pies, they only have peach.

Rule no. 2 is that they never get your order fulfilled correctly, even if you wait the 20 minutes.  Did you want a meal all white with two breasts and one wing… they will give you 2 wings and one breast.   Did you order a large side of mash potatoes with gravy on the side…. you get both together.  Seriously, you can stand there and watch 2-3 people bringing there orders back in because of some mishap.

I remember once I ordered a large side of mash potatoes with the gravy on the side because my wife can’t eat the spicy gravy.  They gave it to me combined.  So I told the gal, who was also busy talking on her walkie talkie,  and the next iteration was mash potatoes with no gravy at all.  Again I mentioned this, and by the time she could turn around  she had forgotten and I once again got my large side of mash potatoes combined with the gravy.  On the next iteration, I got the mash potatoes with the gravy on the side, but this time it was a small order instead of the large order of mash potatoes.  It took 5 iterations to finally get my large order of mash potatoes with the gravy on the side!

Last week I got what “Popeye” customers affectionately refer to as the “Double Rule Combo.”  I ordered a 12 piece chicken deal that I wanted half regular and half spicy.  I was shocked that they actually had both styles.  I made a mistake, however, and asked them to add 4 of their fried cinnamon crisp apple pies.  I was told they only have 1 apple cinnamon, and 2 peach.  It would take 15 minutes to get a new batch of pies made.  So I said… “Ok, I will wait!”

That was a huge mistake.  First, I had to wait 2o minutes for the pies to get done.  Once the pies were done, they started to fulfill my order, but in the meantime they had run out of the spicy style chicken.  So guess what?  Yup, I had to wait another 20 minutes for a new batch of chicken.

I was really frustrated by the time I got home and commented to my wife, Ali, “The day those crazy people actually get my order right, the world is going to come to an end!”

Well today it happened.  For the first time in over 4 years not only did they have all the stuff I wanted, they actually got it all packed up correctly the very first time.

So prepare yourselves, my friends, because the world must be coming to an end sometime tonight!
